Gotta Abu Ramada

  • Access: Boat
  • Skill Level: Guided Scuba Diver
  • Max Depth: 15m

It is probably the most popular reef of Hurghada, offering excellent diving conditions for both beginner and experienced diver. The main reef is surrounded by a 9-15 meters sandy area, where a coral garden extends in all directions. Both to the left and right of the reef you'll find various coral pinnacles. Even in bad weather conditions this is a calm place to dive. Current normally goes from the north splitting at the northern side. This place is famous for its huge amount and variety of soft and hard corals with dominance of Brain Corals, the largest and most beautiful in the region. The main reef is flooded with species of Goat Fish, Banner Fish, Butterfly and Sweetlips. Not so far away from the reef we can spot hunting species of Barracuda and Trevalliers, as well as schools pf Fusiliers passing by. Also magnificent samples of Scorpion Fish, Stone Fish, Crocodile Fish, Lion Fish can be found at the bottom of the reef. In the coral garden surrounding the reef we will encounter a lot of Stingrays, Morey Eels and sometimes Turtles as well. At the eastern side of the reef one should look out for Eagle Ray residing there.

Erg Sabrina

  • Access: Boat
  • Skill Level: Guided Scuba Diver
  • Max Depth: 20m

Erg Sabina is a dive site located in Giftun National Park by the place called Shaab Sabina. It is one of the most beautiful dive sites in Hurghada. The erg here is surrounded by a sandy plateau, which stretches towards the north and ends at another but smaller erg. It is definitely one of the most photographed and full of life place. We have an opportunity to see all kinds of reef fishes, from small Basslets and Butterfly Fish to huge Moray Eels, Turtles and Eagle Rays. If we are lucky we might see even a Whale Shark whose appearing is always sensational. Huge and beautiful, soft and hard corals will certainly be a great temptation for amateurs of underwater photography.

Shaabruhr Umm Gammar

  • Access: Boat
  • Skill Level: Guided Scuba Diver
  • Max Depth: 40m

Shabruhr Umm Gmmar is like a smaller cope of Umm Gammar although it can’t be seen above the surface and its shape is more cylindrical. This offshore Island is surrounded by good diving on all sides. The south end has a shallow plateau where the moorings are located which descends to a sandy plateau with lots of coral patches. For first timers at Umm Gammar it’s best to begin at the plateau, moving eastwards to the drop off then north along the wall. After a short swim against the current you reach three pinnacles close together, chimneys reach through the pinnacles toward the surface. This dive site is known to host large numbers of Stone and Scorpion Fish but also the Moray Eels are the popular habitants. Schools of Blue Fusiliers and few huge Travellies are swimming around. From time to time the Reef Shark can be seen here but the real attraction is the Dolphins coming here for hunting or just to check on the divers.

Shaab Eshta

  • Access: Boat
  • Skill Level: Guided Scuba Diver
  • Max Depth: 10m

Eshta is located near the shore of Hurghada by the Magawish Island. It is very popular reef among beginner divers and amateurs of underwater photography. It is formed by two relatively small ergs connected by shallow canal. It is ideal place for bight dive. The underwater life of this reef is very rich and interesting. A lot of light and currents sweeping the entire ergs gave the possibility for growth of soft and hard corals. In the northern part of the smaller erg a school of yellow Goat Fish usually can be found. Moreover, Lion Fish, Scorpion Fish, Octopus, Turtle, Blue Spotted Rays and Calamari often can be spotted levitating just under the surface. Because of the fact that there are so many fishes around here, the place is often called a “fish soup”.

Abu Ramada South

  • Access: Boat
  • Skill Level: Guided Scuba Diver
  • Max Depth: 15m

It offers perfect conditions for both advanced divers as well as for practicing during the course. Apart from amazing flora and fauna we can find here also wreck and settled on the fact the reef is an island it is very well secured, even during most inconvenient weather, from the wind and the waves. Protected from the prevailing northerlies this site gives the opportunity of a relaxing dive. Additionally to the Moray Eel of a significant size one can often spot here Eagle Rays as well as small Leopard Shark. The fish variety here consists of many Stone and Scorpion Fish, Crocodile Fish and also hundreds of Basslets living in the ergs covered with soft corals. Sand Eels are giving sensational show when dancing on the sandy bottom. You can also find on the bottom plenty of Gobies and Partner Shrimps. Around July one should watch out on Trigger Fish which attack everyone who even looks in the direction of their nest where they laid their eggs.

Carless Reef (Careless)

  • Access: Boat
  • Skill Level: Guided Scuba Diver
  • Max Depth: 40m

This diving site is formed by two columns coming at about 20 m from a plateau, which is rising from the depths of the sea. This legendary reef is located to the north of Hurghada and it is perfect place for afternoon dive, on the way back from Umm Gammar or Shaab Ruhr. The reef here has been known to house many Reef Sharks and huge amounts of corals comparable to the Elphinstone or The Brother Islands. It is still a home of Sharks and other big fish as well because of the strong currents present here. Corals, however, in major part where destroyed by Crown of Thorns. The pest was noticed years ago and collected from the reef by the local diving community disabling this way further destruction of the corals. The knowledge in those days about it was very scare therefore it was decided, when all Crown of Thorns where taken out, to cut and throw them out back into the sea. When the population Crown of Thorns revived everybody was terrified. Unfortunately, it attacked the corals and devastated the place. The rescue operation was repeated one more time. Since then a significant improvement was noticed and now this place is coming back as one of first five most beautiful reef of Hurghada. The main attractions here are White Tip Reef Sharks, Dolphins and Fairy Basslets. One can also meet Turtles feeding on the corals at the top of the ergs. Sometimes even Sailfish will come out of the depth, chasing its prey. Hard corals, especially in the northern side by the drop off create amazing, fairytale-like coral formations.
